Kinetics of the diffusion controlled peritectic reaction during solidification of iron-carbon-alloys

Two different steel substrates are applied to the hot dip (Zn) -coating formation. The influence of the substrate composition on the (Zn) -coating thickening is recorded. Morphologies of both coatings are compared to each other. The transition from stable into meta-stable solidification is revealed. The criterion for the competition between stable and meta-stable solidification is applied to justify the analyzed transition.Keywords: (Zn) -coatings; Fe-Zn phase diagrams; growth kinetics; kinetics law Zastosowano dwie różne stale jako podłoża dla uzyskania dwu zróżnicowanych powłok (Zn). Dokonano porównania wpływu składu obydwu rodzajów podłoża na kinetykę wzrostu powłok (Zn). Dokonano zestawienia morfologii obydwu powłok. Ujawnione zostało przejście od krystalizacji stabilnej do meta-stabilnej. Zastosowano kryterium współzawodnictwa między krystalizacją stabilną a meta-stabilną dla uzasadnienia analizowanego przejścia.

A thermodynamic justification for the joint formation is developed on the basis of the diffusion brazing of the Ni/Al/Ni system. The phenomena of dissolution and solidification were included into the description. The first solid/solid transformation is also discussed. Mainly, a description for the isothermal brazing occurrence in the meta-stable conditions is developed. It involves the application of the criterion of higher temperature of the solid / liquid (s/l) interface. The dissolution of the filler metal in the substrate is described by the N 0 -solute concentration within the dissolution zone (liquid film) distinguished at the substrate surface. The selection of the N 0 − parameter by the dissolution is justified by the Thermocalc calculation of the Ni-Al phase diagram for meta-stable equilibrium. According to the model assumptions, the solidification is accompanied by partitioning or by undercooled peritectic reaction resulting in formation of the intermetallic phase. The average Al -solute concentration measured across some Al 3 Ni 2 /Al 3 Ni/Al 3 Ni 2 joints confirms that the N 0 -solute concentration is conserved within the analyzed joint sub-layers. The Ni-Al phase diagram for meta-stable equilibrium referred to the solidification is also calculated by means of the Thermocalc Software. It allows locating the solidification path, s/l interface path and redistribution path onto the mentioned diagram. Superposition of both calculated phase diagrams is also given to show that the joint formation occurs cyclically under the meta-stable conditions.Keywords: meta-stable equilibrium, joint formation model, dissolution, solidificationZaproponowano termodynamiczne uzasadnienie dla kształtowania się złącza na przykładzie spajania dyfuzyjnego systemu Ni/Al/Ni. Do proponowanego opisu włączono zjawiska rozpuszczania i krystalizacji. Pierwsza przemiana w stanie stałym również poddana jest dyskusji. Głównie, opis dotyczy przebiegu spajania dyfuzyjnego w warunkach metastabilnych. Wymaga on zastosowania kryterium wyższej temperatury frontu krystalizacji. Rozpuszczanie składnika łączącego (Al) w podłożu (Ni) jest opisane stężeniem N 0 w strefie rozpuszczania (w ciekłej błonce wyróżnionej tuż przy powierzchni podłoża). Selekcja parametru N 0 jest uzasadniona obliczeniami z użyciem program Thermocalc Software Programem tym wyznaczono diagram fazowy Ni-Al dla równowagi metastabilnej odniesiony do zjawiska rozpuszczania. Zgodnie z założeniami proponowanego opisu krystalizacji towarzyszą rozdział składnika lub przechłodzona reakcja perytektyczna skutkujące formowaniem się fazy międzymetalicznej. Średnie stężenie Al zmierzone w złączach Al 3 Ni 2 /Al 3 Ni/Al 3 Ni 2 potwierdza, że stężenie N 0 jest zachowane w podwarstwach analizowanych złącz. Również, wyznaczono diagram fazowy Ni-Al dla równowagi metastabilnej odniesiony do krystalizacji. Wykorzystano ponownie program Thermocalc Software. Pozwoliło to na zlokalizowanie ścieżki krystalizacji, ścieżki frontów krystalizacji, ścieżki redystrybucji na diagramie fazowym równowagi m...

A hot dip (Zn) -coating formation is carried out in the industry conditions. Two types of the steel substrate are applied to the experiment. Two morphologically different coatings are obtained, accordingly. A hot dip (Zn) -coating formation is also carried out in the laboratory conditions for making some additional explanations of the revealed phenomena. The thickening of the Γ -phase sub-layer is observed in details to determine time of the transition from stable into meta-stable solidification. The Fe-Zn phase diagrams for stable and meta-stable equilibrium are calculated, respectively. The phase diagram for dissolution is also determined. The criterion of the higher temperature of the solid/liquid (s/l) interface is successfully applied to the Fe-Zn system to justify the competition between stable and meta-stable solidification. The mass balance verification is performed for the (Zn) -coating in order to define the nominal Zn -solute concentration required by dissolution and next by solidification. The Zn -solute concentration in the dissolution, super-saturation and saturation zones are determined thermodynamically. The growth kinetics is described for all the sub-layers in the (Zn) -coating.Keywords: (Zn) -coatings, meta-stable solidification, phase diagrams, mass balance, growth kinetics, peritectic reaction Przeprowadzono formowanie powłoki cynkowej metodą zanurzeniową w warunkach przemysłowych. W eksperymencie użyto dwu rodzajów podłoży. Stosownie, uzyskano dwa rodzaje powłok zróżnicowanych morfologicznie. Przeprowadzono również formowanie powłoki w warunkach laboratoryjnych celem uzyskania dodatkowych wyjaśnień dla ujawnionych zjawisk. Szczególnie obserwowano pogrubianie podwarstwy fazy Γ celem określenia momentu przejścia od krystalizacji stabilnej do metastabilnej. Stosownie do tego przejścia obliczono diagramy fazowe Fe-Zn zarówno dla równowagi stabilnej jak i metastabilnej. Dodatkowo obliczono diagram fazowy dla zjawiska rozpuszczania. Skutecznie zastosowano kryterium wyższej temperatury frontu krystalizacji w odniesieniu do diagramu fazowego Fe-Zn celem uzasadnienia współzawodnictwa między krystalizacją stabilną a metastabilną. Przeprowadzono obliczenia bilansu masy dla powłoki (Zn) celem określenia nominalnego stężenia cynku wymaganego przez rozpuszczanie a następnie przez krystalizację. Termodynamicznie określono stężenie cynku w strefach rozpuszczania nasycenia i przesycenia. Kinetyka wzrostu została opisana w odniesieniu do wszystkich podwarstw powłoki cynkowej.
