Kinetics of polymerization of dimer fatty acids with ethylenediamine

Abstract: A generally applicable stoichiometric and kinetic model was developed for the polymerization of dimer fatty acids with ethylenediamine. The rate equations were second-order before 90% conversion and were used between 405 and 475 K. The parameters of the rate equations were determined with nonlinear regression analysis. A comparison of the model predictions and the experimental data showed that the approach was useful in predicting the polymerization kinetics. The equilibrium constant changed from 3.175 to 7.31… Show more

“…The forward and reverse rate constants and empirical parameters were obtained. 11 The process constraints should be considered in order to obtain a feasible operating condition. The aim is to minimize the time required to increase the temperature from 405 to 475 K in order to attain an optimum temperature profile without foaming.…”

“…The kinetics of reaction up to 90% conversion were modeled. [9] In the present work, the kinetics of the polyamidation reaction of ethylenediamine and dimer fatty acid after 90% conversion were investigated. The reverse reaction, the evaporated water and the evaporated amine were included in the model.…”
