Moreover, the Fe 3 þ ion could also catalyze autoxidation and act as a direct oxidant in thiol oxidation under acidic conditions (Luo et al, 2005;Pirie, 1931), but the catalysis would be invalid at (near) neutral or alkaline conditions such as pH 7.3 (Elliott, 1930).
