Kinetic Heavy Quark Mass to Three Loops

Abstract: We compute three-loop corrections to the relation between the heavy quark masses defined in the pole and kinetic schemes. Using known relations between the pole and MS quark masses, we can establish precise relations between the kinetic and MS charm and bottom masses. As compared to two loops, the precision is improved by a factor of 2 to 3. Our results constitute important ingredients for the precise determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element jV cb j at Belle II.

“…The purpose of this note is to study the implications of the recent O(α 3 s ) calculations by Fael, Schönwald and Steinhauser [1][2][3] on the determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |V cb | from inclusive semileptonic B decays, see Refs. [4,5] for the most recent results.…”

“…The other relevant three-loop calculation in our analysis is that of Refs. [2,3], which concerns the relation between the pole (or MS) and the kinetic masses of a heavy quark. This calculation allows us to convert recent high-precision determinations of the b quark MS mass [15,16] into the kinetic scheme [17] with an uncertainty of about 15 MeV, or 50% less than the previous two-loop conversion [18,19].…”

“…[22,25,27,28,89]). These massive effects were exactly calculated in [2,98] (see also the recent work [99]). However, in this paper we do not study the extra theoretical uncertainties related to the incorporation in analysis of the effects of massive lighter quarks.…”

“…The two-loop computation [64] has been known for some time, but the three-loop result has been obtained only recently [65,66]. Different from the other three "n-loop" refers to the value of the n-loop contribution to the mass.…”
