Kinetic and Equilibrium Isotherm Studies for the Removal of Tetracycline from Aqueous Solution Using Engineered Sand Modified with Calcium Ferric Oxides

Abstract: The novel aspect of this research is the fabrication, characterisation, and application of an engineered adsorbent made from quartz sand coated with calcium ferric oxides (QS/CFO) derived from the wastepaper sludge ash (WPSA) for the removal of tetracycline (TC) from synthetic water. Initially, the new adsorbent was fabricated using a Ca/Fe molar ratio, sand/FeCl3 ratio, pH (of synthesising environment), ethylene glycol dose, and temperature of 1:0.75, 1:1, 12, 6 mL/100 mL, and 95℃, respectively. Then, the new… Show more

“…Adsorption isotherms are commonly used to describe how the adsorbent reacts with the adsorbate and play an essential role in optimizing the adsorbent consumption 16 , 43 . The adsorption isotherms have been investigated to obtain adsorption capacity and investigate the adsorption behaviour of 4-chlorophenol using powdered activated carbon modified with amine groups (MAC).…”

“…The removal efficiency at 200 rpm was 91.8%, while it was 81.1% and 90.7% when the agitation was 150 rpm and 250 rpm, respectively. The batch experiments have been extensively detailed in the author's previous article 41 …”

“…A clean and reasonable water supply to meet the needs of the growing global population has become a great challenge of this century [1,2]. Surface and groundwater, which are a major source of drinkable water supplies, besides desalinated water in water-scarce areas, are commonly contaminated by various pollutants, primarily heavy metals [3,4].…”
