Kinematics Simulation Analysis of Shots in Shot Blasting Machine Based on EDEM

Abstract: A three-dimension discrete element model of the shot blasting machine has been established to study the principles of shots flow motion in shot blasting machine. The three-dimension discrete element method (EDEM) was used to analyse the shot-motion process inside the shot blasting machine. The dynamic law of shots motional process inside shot blasting machine was shown through simulation.

“…Due to its advantages such as small pollution and high efficiency, it has gradually replaced other cleaning methods and has become an irreplaceable surface treatment method [1,2]. The process of shot blasting is essentially a process of particle flow acceleration and impact on the workpiece [3]. Therefore, studying the movement process of particle flow in the shot blaster plays an important role in improving the quality of shot blasting and reducing energy consumption.…”

“…Additionally, the combined effect of the initial velocity, mass flow rate, and pinning angle on the compressive residual stress was analyzed. Hou et al 20 analyzed the dynamic behavior of shot balls inside a shot-blasting machine using a 3D DEM. They observed that the faster the rotation speed of the impeller, the greater the rate of change in the speed of the shot ball.…”
