Kinematics of tt¯ events at CDF

Abstract: The kinematic properties of t t events are studied in the Wϩmultijet channel using data collected with the CDF detector during the 1992-1995 runs at the Fermilab Tevatron collider corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 109 pb Ϫ1 . Distributions of a variety of kinematic variables chosen to be sensitive to different aspects of t t production are compared with those expected from Monte Carlo calculations. A sample of 34 events rich in t t pairs is obtained by requiring at least one jet identified by the si… Show more

“…We showed that in the absence of any excess of events CDF and DØ individually should be able to probe e ± u (e ± d) leptoquark masses up to 265 (245) GeV for Yukawa couplings of the electromagnetic strength and β = 1. In the case β = 0.5 these limits reduce to 250 (235) represent an improvement over the present bounds obtained at the Tevatron [5], however, the bounds are similar to the ones obtained by the HERA collaborations [7].…”

“…At the hadron colliders, leptoquarks can be pair produced by gluon-gluon and quark-quark fusions, as well as singly produced in association with a lepton in gluon-quark reactions. At the Tevatron, the CDF and DØ collaborations studied the pair production of leptoquarks which decay into electron-jet pairs [5]. The combined CDF and DØ limit on the leptoquark mass is M lq > 242 GeV [6] for scalar leptoquarks decaying exclusively into e ± -jet pairs.…”

“…Measurements of the b quark production cross section and bb correlations in pp collisions provide an important test of perturbative quantum chromodynamics (QCD) at next-toleading order (NLO). The measured b quark production cross section at √ s = 1.8 TeV [1][2][3][4] is systematically larger than the central values of the NLO QCD predictions [5,6].…”

“…In this article we choose to concentrate our attention on the cross section d 2 σ/dQ 2 dy with Q 2 being the mass squared and y the rapidity of the produced lepton pair. Most recently the CDF collaboration have studied the rapidity dependence of the Drell-Yan cross section in a limited rapidity range [3]. In fact from the experimental side there is a wealth of data on various rapidity distributions (see Ref.…”
