Kinematical analysis on the several linkage drives for mechanical presses

Abstract: In this paper, a kinematical analysis is preformed to see mechanical characteristics of various linkage drives for a mechanical press. Mechanical characteristics of conventional and newly designed drives are investigated and compared in terms of slide velocity, productivity, load capacity and possible work-piece size. A crank-slider mechanism with arc crank-pin guide is introduced and analyzed particularly for kinematical performance using kinematical analysis software. The new linkage drive turns out to be ef… Show more

“…Of the known mechanical presses (Lange, 1995;Ham and Jang, 2009;Halicioglu, 2015aHalicioglu, , 2015b, the student project discussed in this paper refers to a crank-slider press driven from a motor via a belt, in series with a pinion-gear pair, as shown in Figure 1 (Karakoulidis, 2015;Convergence Training, 2021). Each student chooses their own specification for the press according to the recommendations in Table 1, and perform the design and calculations steps listed in Appendix 1.…”

“…Although the working mechanism of servo press is basically the same as that of common mechanical press, their design principles are quite different, due to the different working requirements. For the common mechanical presses, the design of the working mechanisms usually focuses on the kinematic characteristics: proper and steady speed in the working stroke, meeting the requirements of the forming process [21][22][23][24]. The mechanical advantage, although mentioned in some documents for mechanism optimization, is usually not a key factor.…”

“…He presented a practical experiment on a Stephenson III six-bar linkage press for illustration of the convincing validity of the approach. Ham and Jang 12 presented a kinematic analysis of the mechanical characteristics of conventional as well as newly designed press drives, whereby the slide velocity, productivity, load capacity, and possible work-piece size were compared.…”
