Research on this topic is commonly framed as ‘queer kinship’, ‘families of choice’, and ‘alternative kinship’ (Bradway & Freeman 2022 b ; Levine 2008; Mizielińska, Gabb & Stasińska 2018; Weston 1997 [1991]), and is predominantly based in Euro‐America (for exceptions: Brainer 2019; Dankwa 2021; Morison, Lynch & Reddy 2020).
