“…Thanks to the new immunosuppressive agents, human leukocyte antigen (HLA) matching protocols, and optimized follow-up in transplanted patients, graft survival rate has improved and the incidence of the graft complications has been reduced. 1 However, studies still report about 7% to 10% acute graft loss within the first postoperative week because of the surgical and nonsurgical complications. 2,3 Identifying postoperative complications at an earlier stage would have a major impact on reducing the rate of graft loss.…”

“…R75231 can be used clinically for the procurement of organs from non-heartbeating donors. Non-heartbeating donors have been classified into four categories (44): dead on arrival (category 1); unsuccessful resuscitation (category 2); awaiting cardiac arrest (category 3); and cardiac arrest while brain dead (category 4). At the very least R75231 treatment would be indicated for category 3 donors.…”

“…The most intriguing application of HPA machine perfusion is its potential use in rescuing grafts from nonheart-beating donors [6,221. The ability of the HPA to provide adequate perfusion at lower flow rates than conventional machine perfusion may reduce additional damage by preservation.…”
