Key factors selection on adolescents with non-suicidal self-injury: A support vector machine based approach

Abstract: Comparing a family structure to a company, one can often think of parents as leaders and adolescents as employees. Stressful family environments and anxiety levels, depression levels, personality disorders, emotional regulation difficulties, and childhood trauma may all contribute to non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) behaviors. We presented a support vector machine (SVM) based method for discovering the key factors among mazy candidates that affected NSSI in adolescents. Using SVM as the base learner, and the bi… Show more

“…Consistent with previous studies, adolescents exposed to adverse childhood experiences have an increased risk of NSSI. 37 Our research also shows that adolescents with depressive disorders with NSSI are more likely to have adverse childhood experiences than those without NSSI. However, no association between SA and NSSI was found in the current study.…”

“…Trauma, disordered eating, and heavy alcohol use were salient among women, whereas alcohol use norms were important correlates among men. In a similar study, Yang et al [78] in 2022 proposed an SVM model which deduced adolescents' gender, paranoid and histrionic personality traits, suffring physical abuse in childhood, emotional non-acceptance, and education level were associated with an increased risk of NSSI. These may alert psychologists to pay more attention to the mentioned factors.…”

“…Individuals frequently report experiencing an immediate sense of relief during self-injury (8). In addition to being a severe threat to adolescents' mental and physical health, NSSI can also cause severe social impacts and economic burdens (9,10). Understanding the risk factors and early prevention is critical in reducing the harm caused by NSSI.…”
