The purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive systematic literature review of digital learning strategies within universities (institutions of higher learning) in developing countries. Further, the paper seeks to identify gaps for further research, as well as point out future research agenda for digital learning strategies within universities in developing countries.A structured literature review method was used in this study. Journal articles published between year 2011 and 2021 were reviewed to inform this study. A total of 16 articles were identified and reviewed.From the findings, strategies for digital learning are not to be ignored for optimal delivery of digital learning both for the student and for the instructor. Future research should leverage big data produced from the use of the learning platforms and investigate how the incorporation of advanced learning technologies could advance institutional value.

Digital literacy is critical in the current era of digitalization. Therefore, students are required to be digitally literate. This study aims to improve students’ digital literacy using an android-based e-module in chemical bonding. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a pre-experimental design that included a pretest and posttest for one group. For this study, 70 preservice teachers (10 males and 60 females) from the Department of Chemistry Education at a private university in Indonesia were recruited. The Digital Literacy Questionnaire (DLQ) was used to measure students’ digital literacy. To analyze the data, we used paired t-tests and N-gain. The results indicated a significant increase in digital literacy scores before and after treatment. Thus, it can be concluded that using an android-based e-module significantly enhances students’ digital literacy on chemical bonds. Due to its effectiveness, we recommend teachers use this e-module to elevate students’ academic performance, in general, in chemistry.

The paper analyzes the teaching experiment regarding the use of mobile apps in the assessment of student learning. The study involved survey and self-description methods offered to students and instructors to assess the effectiveness of using mobile apps in learning. The study was conducted among 320 s-year students of the I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University and 8 instructors between September 1 and December 28, 2021, during the academic semester. Socrative and Plickers apps have been found to contribute to: better learning (φ* = 8.94, p ≤ 0.01); developing cognitive motivation among students resulting from diverse learning resources used with apps (φ* = 7.6, p ≤ 0.01); convenience of learning activities because students can work with the app both in the classroom and at home (φ* = 13.66, p ≤ 0.01); improved digital competence (φ* = 2.4, p ≤ 0.05). The research findings can be used by instructors in universities and secondary schools.
