Keith E. Gubbins: A retrospective

Abstract

(NCSU), a member of the National Academy of Engineering (1989), and a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE, 2003). He is one of the key figures responsible for developing the fields of statistical mechanics and molecular simulation into core subdisciplines of chemical engineering. An early pioneer in these areas, he demonstrated their utility in solving practical problems relevant to chemical engineering applications and organized molecular simulation sessions at the AIChE Annual Meeting as far back as the late 1970s, nucleating interest in these areas to the point that they are now represented in most chemical engineering departments around the world. Over the course of his career, he has authored 4 books and more than 500 papers, and presented nearly 600 invited lectures and seminars on these subjects.
