Keeping it simple: simplified frameworks for long-lived particles at neutrino facilities

Brian Batell,
Wenjie Huang,
Kevin J. Kelly

Abstract: Modern-day accelerator neutrino facilities are excellent venues for searches for new-physics particles. Many distinct new-physics models predict overlapping signatures and phenomenology in these experiments. In this work, we advocate for the adoption of simplified frameworks when studying these types of new-physics signatures, which are characterized by a small number of primary variables, including particle masses, lifetimes, and production and decay modes/rates that most directly control signal event rates a… Show more

“…The idea is to represent the number of events as the integral of the product of several pre-computed quantities: the LLP angle-energy distribution, the geometric acceptance of the experiment, the LLP decay probability, and the acceptance for the decay products. This method has been successfully used for a number of experiments and LLPs [4][5][6] (see also [7,8]).…”
