I am a qualified school nurse and I have been working in a North London borough for nearly eleven years. I enjoy my job but I am unhappy about the erosion of the school nurse’s public profile in recent years (Stanfield et al, 2009). It seems to be that school nurses were mentioned quite frequently and strenuously in some Government drivers, such as: Choosing Health (Department of Health (DH), 2004), and Every Child Matters (2004). However, I am saddened to hear from the British Journal of School Nursing that school nurses’ profile is not as high now and not regarded very highly by our employers and in Whitehall (Crabtree and Davis, 2009; Day, 2009).
