Abstract:The monograph describes folk and mass preaching movement in protestant Scandinavia in the 19th century, which was a protest and secular alternative to the state church and its interpretations of faith. The author focuses on non-religious, social importance of preaching movements, recognizing in them a significant aspect of cultural, political and economic modernization processes in the 19th century Scandinavia, the formation of civic society and national awareness of the peasant class.
