Bu çalışmada, özel eğitim sınıflarında çalışan öğretmenlerin, hazırladıkları bireyselleştirilmiş eğitim planı (BEP) düzeylerinin farklı değişkenler açısından incelenmesi ve öğretmenlerin BEP konusundaki becerilerini incelemenin yanı sıra tasarım temelli uygulamaların BEP’lerde yer alma durumunun incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Araştırma örneklemini Ege bölgesindeki bir ilde yer alan merkez ve seçilen bir ilçede özel eğitim sınıflarında görev yapmakta olan özel eğitim öğretmenleri oluşturmaktadır. Verilerin toplanmasında “Öğretmen Bilgi Formu” ve 16 maddeden oluşan BEP Kalitesini Değerlendirme Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Öğretmenlerin hazırladıkları BEP’ler doküman analizi yöntemi ile değerlendirilmiştir ve nitel verilerin nicel verilere dönüştürülerek veri analizi yapılmıştır. Yapılan analizler sonucunda öğretmenlerin BEP hazırlarken genelleme, amaç/işlevsellik/ önkoşulluluk ve problem davranış maddelerinde zorlandıkları görülmektedir. Öğretmenlerin tasarım temelli amaçlar belirleyebildiği ancak BEP’inde tasarıma değinen öğretmenlerin BEP puanlarının tasarıma değinmeyen öğretmenlerin puanlarından daha düşük olduğunun görülmektedir. Ayrıca öğretmenlerin katıldığı eğitimlerin ve projelerin de BEP puanlarına olumlu katkısı gözlenmemiştir. BEP konusunda hazırlanacak olan eğitimlerin/hizmet içi eğitimlerin ve projelerin çok detaylı bir planlamaya sahip olması araştırmacılar tarafından önerilmektedir.

The aim of this research is to examine the effect of STEAM (STEM + Arts) education, which is an interdisciplinary approach that has been frequently used in developed countries in recent years, on the science course learning outcomes of students with specific learning disabilities. The model of the research was structured as a mixed design and was realized with an explanatory sequential design. In this context, the research took place in two separate interactive stages. In the first stage, a quantitative method was applied. In this section, a one‐group pretest–posttest pre‐experimental model was used. The research was carried out with 4 students who were studying in a state primary school in a province in the Southern Region of Anatolia and who were diagnosed with specific learning disabilities. As data collection tools, an academic achievement test and STEAM process rubric were used. Means and standard deviations were used in the analysis of the data collected from the pretest, posttest, persistence test and rubrics. In the qualitative section of the study, interviews were conducted with the participants in order to evaluate STEAM education in the light of the quantitative stage, and diaries were kept for the participants in the context of a more in‐depth and objective examination of the process. The data collected by qualitative data tools were subjected to content analysis and direct quotations were made from the opinions and diaries of the participants. As a result of the research, it was determined that the quantitative findings overlapped with the qualitative findings. It was observed that the STEAM activities increased the academic success of the participants, that their motivation was high, and that they were curious and eager for the activities. In addition, it was revealed that they made an effort to use the knowledge and experience they had gained from the STEAM activities in other courses.

Parents’ Views Regarding Homeworks Given in Science Courses

The aim of this study was to explore parents’ opinions about homework assignments given in science and technology courses. The sample of the study was composed of 764 parents who reside in the city of Osmaniye in Turkey. The data were collected by a “Parent Homework Scale” developed by the researcher. The instrument includes three subscales; function, attitude and behavior. U-Test and H-Test were employed to identify any difference among variables. The findings showed that there was no significant difference in parents’ scores on attitude and behavior subscales of the instrument regarding gender, educational background, occupation, and average monthly income. When function subscales scores were investigated according to gender educational background, occupation, average monthly income, it was observed that civil servants in occupational category had lower function scores than self-employed, farmer, worker, artisan, and retired. It was found that university graduates in level of education category had lower function scores than primary school graduates, secondary school graduates, and high school graduates. It was also found that high income in the monthly income group had lower function scores than other members in each related group. Key words: homework, parents’ opinions, science education.
