Karyotype analysis of some lines and varieties belonging to Carthamus tinctorius L. species

Abstract: In this paper, karyology of thirty one accessions of Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) were investigated in terms of their chromosome numbers and karyomorphology. The chromosomal counts confirmed the results of previous reports, that the Carthamus has same basic chromosome numbers. According to our results discussed all accessions of chromosome numbers have been identified 2n = 24, x=12 and also all have the diploid number of chromosomes. We found predominance of chromosomes being metacentric and sub-metacen… Show more

“…(Ruas et al, 2000), Prospero Salisb. (Jang et al, 2013) and Carthamus L. (Uysal et al, 2018) and those authors concluded that distinct cytotypes could occur on individuals of the same species. Thus, both karyotypes could be at least two different cytotypes of the same species.…”

“…Freshly grown root tips from the germinated seeds of diploid and autotetraploid plants, confirmed by flow cytometric analysis, were pretreated with 2 mmol L -1 of 8-hydroxyquinoline solution at 20°C for 2 h, and fixed in ethanol:acetic acid (3:1, v/v) at 4°C for 24 h. The fixed tips were then washed thoroughly in distilled water to remove the fixative solution, and hydrolyzed in 1 N HCl at 60°C for 5 min. After hydrolysis, root tips were stained with 2% aqueous aceto orcein (Sheidai et al 2009;Uysal et al 2018). The chromosomes at the metaphase plate were observed under an optical microscope (Zeiss Axiostar, Jena, Germany) with a 100x oil immersion objective.…”

“…Carthamus tinctorius L., the only cultured species of safflower, carries the diploid genomes of its putative wild diploid progenitors, C. oxyacanthus Bieb (Knowles 1969) or C. palestinus Eig (Chapman and Burke 2007) without polyploidy. Hence all safflower varieties cultivated today have a diploid chromosome number (2n= 2x= 24) (Estilai 1971;Sheidai et al 2009;Uysal et al 2018). Although an in vitro study was carried out by Moghbel et al (2015) to obtain artificial polyploid safflower, the results obtained from this research remained only at the experimental level.…”

“…Enteral nutrition (EN) is the continuous, intermittent, cyclic, or bolus delivery of nutrients into the gastrointestinal tract through a tube 1,2 . Enteral nutrition is important in terms of maintaining the natural mechanism of the gastrointestinal system and preventing septic complications and malnutrition 3,4 . Adequate nutrition of enterally fed patients may be possible with good nursing care.…”

“…It is important for nurses to manage EN practices with appropriate nursing interventions based on evidence in terms of decreasing the duration of hospitalization and increasing the quality of life 9 . Kalender et al 3,9-11 found that the knowledge level of nurses regarding EN and prevention of possible complications was not sufficient 12 . In the studies conducted, EN practices in intensive care units (ICUs) are based on opinions, nurses have low levels of knowledge about EN, they do not use care guidelines and protocols, and they do not know related complications and cannot identify them in the early period.…”
