Karst Hydrological Processes and Grey System Model1

Abstract: The karst hydrological processes are the response of karst groundwater system to precipitation. This study provided a concept model of karst hydrological processes. The hydraulic response time of spring discharge to precipitation includes the time that precipitation penetrates through the vadose zone, and the subsequent groundwater pressure wave propagates to a spring outlet. Due to heterogeneities in karst aquifers, the hydraulic response time is different in different areas. By using grey system theory, we p… Show more

“…At present, the grey prediction model is being continuously improved. Grey prediction models have been widely used in the integrated circuit industry, environment [26], energy [27], transportation [28], industry [29,30], marine disasters [31], and other fields. Li et al (2019) comprehensively combined the grey theory and models, explained the validity and extensive application of the grey prediction models, and pointed out that the application of the grey model in the marine economy is an inevitable trend [32].…”

“…Since the infiltration coefficient method used in the study of precipitation infiltration recharge of karst water is relatively simple and infiltrate rates are difficult to measure, this renders recharge estimates difficult to be verified, which would affect the accuracy of natural resource estimates. The methods used in the estimation of the time-lag of precipitation recharge were mainly based on gray theory (Wang 2007;Fan et al 2012;Hao et al 2012;) and statistical regression method (Zang et al 2013), which were used to determine the cross-correlation between precipitation time series and spring flow time series. Of course, the cross-correlation is indeed an effective method to be used to determine the time-lag between the two time series.…”

“…Hsu and Yeh (2000) developed a new methodology for lossy image compression based on GM. Hao et al (2012) analyzed and predicted hydrological process in Karst River Basin using the grey prediction model and gained the higher precision. Then they studied human activities effect on hydrological process in Karst River Basin using sectioned GM (Hao et al, 2013).…”
