Karst bare slope soil erosion and soil quality: a simulation case study

Abstract: Abstract. The influence on soil erosion by different bedrock bareness ratios, different rainfall intensities, different underground pore fissure degrees and rainfall duration are researched through manual simulation of microrelief characteristics of karst bare slopes and underground karst crack construction in combination with artificial simulation of rainfall experiment. The results show that firstly, when the rainfall intensity is small (30 and 50 mm h −1 ), no bottom load loss is produced on the surface, an… Show more

“…Moreover, the soil system is damaged by millennial use and abuse of soil resources, and the soils are failing to supply humankind with goods and services due to the degradation of soil structure, loss of soil quality, and loss of soil fertility (Dai et al, 2015;Masto et al, 2015;Zhao et al, 2015;Cerda, 1998;Costa et al, 2015). Pollution is one of the triggering factors of soil degradation and it is a worldwide problem Roy and Mcdonald, 2015;Mahmoud and Abd El-Kader, 2015).…”

“…Nowadays, most of the people in the world remain heavily dependent on soil resources as their main livelihood source, what leads to soil degradation. Soil erosion is a worldwide environmental problem that reduces the productivity of all natural ecosystems and agriculture, which threatens the lives of most smallholder farmers (Dai et al, 2015;Erkossa et al, 2015;Gessesse et al, 2015;Ochoa-Cueva et al, 2015;Taguas et al, 2015;Prosdocimi et al, 2016). Soil erosion by water is the greatest factor limiting agricultural productivity in the humid tropical regions (Sunday et al, 2012).…”

“…Soil quality is defined as the capacity of the soil to function within natural or managed ecosystems and land use boundaries, sustain biological productivity (Calleja-Cervantes et al, 2015;Dai et al, 2015), promote air quality and water environments, and maintain plant, animal, and human health Karlen et al, 1997). Physical and chemical properties are the main indicators used to assess soil quality (Bone et al, 2014;Paz-Ferreiro and Fu, 2013;Pulido Moncada et al, 2015).…”
