Karnofsky Performance Scale and Neurological Assessment of Neuro-Oncology Scale as Early Predictor in Glioma

Abstract: Primary brain tumour remains one of the most disabling and lethal disease. Data from International Agency for Research on Cancer 2018 shows incidence of primary brain and CNS tumour worldwide of approximately 296,851. At the same year, The Global Cancer Atlas showed that 5,354 people in Indonesia were diagnosed with primary brain tumour. Glioma represents 27% of all tumours and 80% of all malignant tumours (Ostrom et al., 2015). Glioblastoma accounts for the majority of gliomas (55,1%), and combined glioblasto… Show more

“…Inclusion criteria were as follows: (1) patients were all advanced ovarian epithelial carcinoma, which was confirmed by pathological examination; (2) met the diagnostic criteria in Obstetrics and Gynecology [ 15 ]; (3) met the diagnostic criteria for Qi deficiency and blood stasis OC in the TCM Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines for Malignant Tumors [ 16 ]; (4) patients' Karnofsky's performance status (KPS) > 60 [ 17 ], with an estimated survival of more than 6 months; (5) patients were 30 to 70 years old; and (6) patients were aware of the content and purpose of the study and have no objection and voluntarily sign the informed consent form.…”

“…This included patient gender and age, analysis of blood gasses (serum lactate, glucose, hemoglobin (Hb), base excess (BE), and pH), presurgical volumes of tumors, the largest diameter of tumor edema calculated from MR images, tumor histopathology according to the 2007 and 2016 WHO classification ( 2 , 16 ), if it was a primary operation for a brain tumor, and preoperative Karnofsky performance scale ( 17 ) and Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) ( 18 ) if a patient had hyperglycemia, diabetes, intraoperative hypotension, pressor treatment during tumor surgery, and presurgical treatment with corticosteroids. The Karnofsky performance scale, ranging from 100 to 0, classifies patients according to their functional impairment, with high scores for high functionality ( 17 ). CCI is based on 17 categories of medical conditions ( 18 ).…”

“…The postoperative recovery, short-term prognosis, nursing satisfaction, and complications were compared between the two groups and it is as follows: Postoperative Recovery: It includes the time of stay in intensive care unit, hospitalization time, wakeup time, and the time of defecation for the first time. Short-term Prognosis: The short-term prognosis of the patients was evaluated by the Karnofsky functional status scale (KPS) [ 16 ] (1, 2, and 3 months after operation). The score of KPS scale ranges between 0 and 100.…”
