Mo/zeolites catalysts were investigated in ethane and ethylene ammoxidation into acetonitrile. The catalysts were prepared either in solid‒solid or liquid‒solid interface after varying different parameters. The stabilization of Mo species upon the exchange is dependent on the hydrophilic/hydrophobic character of the zeolite and the type of Mo precursor. In fact, zeolites with low Si/Al molar ratios should be avoided due to their higher dehydration enthalpy values (Δdehyd.H). On the other hand, the use of MoOCl4, Mo(CO)6 and MoCl3 precursors and zeolites with high Si/Al ratios led to inefficient [Mo7O24]6‒ species and amorphous MoO3 which catalyzes the combustion reaction. Nevertheless, the use of MoCl5, MoO3 and MoO2(C5H7O2)2 led to promising activities. In catalysis, [MoO4]2‒ species are required to activate C2H6 into C2H4, while [MoxO3x+1]2‒ (x =1, 2) species catalyze the ammoniation of C2H4 and the ethylamine dehydrogenation into CH3CN. Interestingly, active catalysts could be obtained by humid impregnation and a simultaneous oxidative treatment. Such a treatment improves the dispersion state of crystalline MoO3, which activate ethane molecules. It is judicious to perform C2H6 oxidative dehydrogenation before ammoxidation since the interference between the different investigated parameters could be noted.

Heavy metal water pollution is one of the most pressing environmental problems of the last decades. Wastewater from many industrial processes contain high concentrations of metals and have very acid pH. Thus, technologies to remove heavy metals from aqueous solutions are costly or suffer deterioration when in contact with substances with acid pH. Natural zeolites have demonstrated to be a low-cost heavy metal adsorbent. This study aimed to determine basic parameters for efficient copper removal by aluminosilicates. A Zeolite was conditioned with concentrated H2SO4 to further develop the experiments to test 4 kinetics (Pseudo-first-order, Pseudo-second-order, Elovich and Webber-Morris) and to calculate thermodynamic parameters (ΔG°, ΔH°, ΔS° and Ea). Out of the studied kinetic models, the one that best correlated was the Pseudo-second order model. According to thermodynamic studies, the increase in temperature favors adsorption and the process is spontaneous.

Zeolite is extensively synthesized for the application in a large variety of catalysis processes such as ion exchange, hydrocarbon cracking, and organic synthesis. In order to satisfy the serious terms of sustainability that denotes to the reduction of costs and chemical waste, kaolinite‐based zeolites were produced from cheap natural resources as against to the conventional process that employs pure sodium silicate and sodium aluminate. This review paper is to highlight the current trends in the synthesis of zeolite. Prior to previous reviews, great concern is focused on the impurities effect on the catalytic performance of kaolinite‐based zeolites. This study reveals that the impact of impurities in a catalytic reaction was in fact, underestimated or neglected. For instance, it was found that Fe ion concentration as small as 60 ppm gives significant catalytic output. Hence, a new practice to report the concentration of impurities in the research publication is suggested. This undoubtedly will generate a better interpretation of the catalytic activity from the zeolite framework.
