Kadıkalesi (Anaia) Çevresinde Jeoarkeolojik Araştırmalar

Abstract

Kadıkalesi is located on the coastal plain between Kuşadası and Davutlar. Due to its location and geographical characteristics, this coastal region has been a suitable area for the establishment of settlements from Neolithic to present. Kadıkalesi is located 200 meters inland from the current coastline. Owing to its location, natural environment changes related to the coastal changes have been effective throughout the settlement history. Determination of natural environment changes occurring in Kadıkalesi and its surroundings from the first settlement to the present is important in terms of archaeological studies. changes in the Holocene can be determined by examining alluvial / colluvial deposits in this environment. The aim of this study is to determine the palaeogeographical changes during Holocene using core drilling data conducted alluvial plain surrounds Kadıkalesi mound. Accordingly, in this study, 9 core drillings were carried out by Kuşadası-Davutlar coastal plain and in the vicinity of Kadıkalesi. According to data obtaining from the core drillings, the alluvial stratigraphy encompasses five main units around Kadıkalesi. These are from bottom to the surface; terrestrial sediments deposited before Mid-Holocene, Mid-Holocene marine sediments, Late Holocene swamp sediments, current fluvial sediments and cultural materials of Kadıkalesi mound. The sedimentological and geomorphological evaluation of drilling data revealed that coastline has progressed 1-2 km inland in the Middle Holocene. At this time Kadıkalesi mound and its immediate surroundings area was surrounded by the sea and it was in the form of a peninsula connected to the land by a thin neck from the eastern part in Mid Holocene.
