The issues behind the review, if not the proposed resolution, were already being discussed in 2004. 1 On the whole, Metadata for Information Management and Retrieval fills a need in the metadata literature. It is not a magic bone-stop shoppingQ place where library and information professionals will find all they need to know about metadata and the standards that have been developed. Readers will need to follow up on the references for more in-depth information. The focus on how metadata is used and what information managers need to consider regarding the impact metadata will have on our professional undertakings make this volume a valuable and unique contribution.
