Abstract: A 6-week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the efficiency of hijiki (Sargassum fusiforme) and ecklonia (Ecklonia cava) as dietary supplements for juvenile olive flounder. Fish growth performance, hematology, innate immunity and disease resistance were examined. A basal experimental diet was used as a control and supplemented with 6% of either S. fusiforme or E. cava and another diet was prepared to contain 0.5% oxytetracycline (designated as Con, Hij-6, Eck-6 and OTC-0.5, respectively). The experiment wa… Show more

“…Throughout the 6-and 8-day post-observation periods after E. tarda infection after the 4-and 8-week feeding trials, superior survival was achieved in olive flounder fed the GGP diet compared to the SUP, BBP and Con diets, and the SUP and Con diets, respectively. This might demonstrate that inclusion of phyto-additives, especially GG, in the olive flounder diet could enhance disease resistance against E. tarda, even higher than a commercial probiotic Ecklonia cava powder in diets achieved no difference in growth and feed utilization of olive flounder but exhibited greater disease resistance against E. tarda in comparison with either a diet with no additive or a diet with 0.5% oxytetracycline (Kim et al, 2014).…”

“…During the tagging, sick and disabled individuals were discarded. Marked fishes were treated with oxytetracycline at 100 ppm for 30 minutes against potential infections (Kim et al 2014). All turbots were tagged at least two weeks before release, and then kept and closely observed in the fibre tank until the time of release.…”
