“…Cartilaginous tumors of the cricoid [7], arytenoid [8], and thyroid cartilage [9] have been reported in the literature in decreasing order. Hyoid chondromas have been reported as rare [4,10,11]. Similar cases of chondroma of the greater cornu of hyoid bone have been reported by Nakagawa et al [10] and Ozcan et al [12].…”

“…Cartilaginous tumours of the larynx are uncommon, with approximately 250 cases reported in the literature so far in toto [1] since the original case presentation by Travers [2] to the Medico-Chirurgical Society of London in 1816. The cartilaginous mesenchymal tumours reported in the literature so far include-chondroma, chondrosarcoma, and chondroblastoma [3][4][5][6]. Majority of the times, these lesions turn out to be malignant.…”

“…Sampling of the cellular components may be problematic and matrix is non‐specific, rendering a definite diagnosis very difficult, particularly CS . In the hyoid bone, like in every other location, the distinction between benign (e.g., chondroma) and low grade malignant tumors can only be done with adequate clinical and radiological data, due to overlapping cytological features . The same logic is applied in the presence of a high grade CS and the differential diagnosis with the chondroblastic variant of osteosarcoma, although the excess of pleomorphism in chondroblastic cells, osteoid matrix in the background and younger age should alert for the latter diagnosis .…”
