“…We predict that other species and taxa associated with sea anemones and corals will respond similarly to bleaching events, translating into significant losses in reproductive output. At least 51 species of fishes are facultative symbionts of sea anemones worldwide 46 . Furthermore, scaling up the potential impacts of elevated temperatures on symbiotic fishes in French Polynesia, as many as 12% (56/464) of coastal fish species depend directly, either for food or shelter, on organisms capable of bleaching (Supplementary Data 1 ).…”

“…The occurrence of L. dimidiatus in sea anemones may possibly be initiated by the cleaning behaviour targeting the anemone¢sh. We suggest that our observation adds one new species of ¢sh that is a facultative symbiont of a host anemone to the list of 51 known ¢sh species (Arvedlund et al, 2006), based on de Bary's original de¢nition of symbiosis (Hertig et al, 1937): two di¡erent species living together. Many species of anemone¢sh that are facultative symbionts of sea anemones usually dwell in the host with the cost of possibly getting stung by the poisonous cnidae of the host, but in return possibly bene¢tting by predator protection.…”

“…All sites were about 100Â75 m in size. For a map and further information on all reefs of Akajima and the distribution of anemone¢sh and their hosts, from a reef nearby the observation reported here, see Arvedlund et al (2006). No data on anemone¢sh and their host are available from Nosokozaki.…”

“…Anemon laut merupakan inang berbagai anemonfishes (Shimek, 2006). Tidak kurang 51 spesies ikan melakukan simbiosis fakultatif dengan anemon laut, khususnya di perairan tropis (Arvedlund et al, 2006). Selanjutnya menurut Allen (1974), anemon menjadi tempat hidup bersama bagi 26 jenis ikan hias Amphiprion termasuk 1 jenis Premnas biaculeatus.…”
