Juvenile Hormone Activity of Some Glycosidic Juvenogens

Abstract: In a search for new hormonogen com-venogens exhibit juvenile hormone activity in pounds related to insect juvenile hormones we.insects only when ingested. They are completely have prepared and bioassayed several ß-D-glucoinactive in topical application as well as when insides of some selected secondary juvenoid alcohols, jected into the haemolymph. It is suggested that Due to localization of the activating enzyme ß-D-the highly specific and selective action of the glucopyranosidase in the epithelium and in the… Show more

“…The difference in efficacy of the cis ‐isomers and trans ‐isomers of both structural types of JHA on P. apterus is in agreement with the results for the related pyrrhocorid species D. cingulatus reported earlier 12, 18. The inactivity of the β‐ D ‐glucopyranoside derivative of α, β‐unsaturated esteric juvenoid ( 3 ) when applied topically was also confirmed.…”

“…1a), bearing hydroxyl functionality at the 1,2‐disubstituted cyclohexane ring, which results in synthesis and separation of the cis ‐ and trans ‐isomers of the alcoholic juvenoids ( 1 and 2 ) 28. The alcoholic juvenoids were transformed into their alkyl β‐ D ‐glucopyranoside derivatives ( 3 and 4 )18 and β‐ D ‐galactopyranoside derivatives ( 5 and 6 ) 29. The second structural type is represented by cis ‐ and trans ‐isomers of juvenoids ( 7 and 8 ),30 bearing carbamate functionality in the aliphatic side chain of their molecules (Fig.…”

“…In contrast, hydrolysis of glucose conjugates catalyzed by S-glucosidase is particularly active in piercingsucking insects, and is probably responsible for the selective activation of glucosidic juvenogens in Dysdercus and A. pisum (Slama and Romanuk, 1976;Slama et al, 1978;Robinson, 1956).…”
