“…Although perp walks have a long history in the American criminal justice system, almost nothing is known about how they are viewed by the general public. The lack of attention given to public opinion on perp walks stands in stark contrast to the large body of opinion research on other criminal justice issues and practices, such as capital punishment, sentencing in general, fairness in the courts, police use of deadly force, and confidence in the police (Brooks and Jeon‐Slaughter, ; Browning and Cao, ; Engel, ; Gabbidon and Higgins, ; Overby, Brown, Bruce, Smith, and Winkle, ; Schuck and Rosenbaum, ; Tyler, ; Wu, ). Through this article, we begin to correct this oversight in the literature and to explore whether the racial and political divides that seem to characterize public opinion on other criminal justice issues are also present in the case of perp walks.…”
