“…One phosphor that fulfills the design criteria for high efficiency is Ce 3+ -substituted CaSc 2 O 4 , the preparation of which has been reported by using a variety of methods, including laser-heated pedestal growth, , combustion synthesis, or conventional high-temperature methods . This host material (CaSc 2 O 4 ) has also been made luminescent by doping with Eu 2+ , Er 3+ , Ho 3+ , Tm 3+ and by codoping Ce 3+ with Tm 3+ /La 3+ /Tb 3+ and Yb 3+ . It has also been investigated for use as an up-conversion phosphor. On the basis of X-ray scattering analyses, the host structure, CaSc 2 O 4 , depicted in Figure , contains distorted ScO 6 octahedra that form a three-dimensional network of edge- or corner-sharing polyhedra.…”
