Jpcam: A 1.2 Gpixel Camera for the J-Pas Survey

Abstract: JPCam is a 14-CCD mosaic camera, using the new e2v 9k-by-9k 10m-pixel 16-channel detectors, to be deployed on a dedicated 2.55m wide-field telescope at the OAJ (Observatorio Astrofísico de Javalambre) in Aragon, Spain. The camera is designed to perform a Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) survey of the northern sky. The J-PAS survey strategy will use 54 relatively narrow-band (~13.8nm) filters equi-spaced between 370 and 920nm plus 3 broad-band filters to achieve unprecedented photometric red-shift accuracies… Show more

“…The main scientific instrument of the JST/T250, which will be used to carry out J-PAS, is the Javalambre Panoramic Camera (JPCam, Taylor et al 2014;Marín-Franch et al 2017), a 1.2 Gpixel camera with an effective FoV of 4.2 deg 2 and a plate scale of 0.23 arcsec pix −1 . JPCam has completed the assembly, integration, and verification phases and is currently being installed and commissioned at the Cassegrain focus of the JST/T250 telescope.…”

“…The Javalambre-Physics of the Accelerating Universe Astrophysical Survey 2 (J-PAS, Benitez et al 2014) is the first stage IV survey, starting in 2016. The observations will be taken from the Javalambre Survey Telescope (JST/T250), a new fully dedicated 2.5m telescope located at the Observatorio Astrofísico de Javalambre 3 in Teruel (Spain), using JPCam, a panoramic camera with a mosaic of 14 largeformat CCDs amounting to 1200 Mpix, that provides an effective field of view of ∼4.7deg 2 (see Cenarro et al 2013Cenarro et al , 2014Taylor et al 2014;Marín-Franch et al 2015).…”

“…Two upcoming surveys, PAU 1 and J-PAS 2 [125]) plans to measure galaxies in respetively 42 and 54 narrow bands. The PAU survey, and quite similar for J-PAS, expect to observe with a photo-z precision of σ 68 (z) = 0.0035(1 + z) for i AB <= 22.5.…”
