ABSTRACT: This article examines the representations of Saturn and his sons in various astrological manuals from the late Middle Ages to the beginning of the 18th century, showing their functions and significance. The second part of the article analyses how these representations are transmitted to the golden age literature, showing how the theme of Saturn and his sons constitutes a reading key for different literary texts. The last part of the article focuses more precisely on the original poetic universe developed by Francisco de la Torre, demonstrating that this singular space, marked by cold and night, can and must be read through the astrological key, which enriches and densifies the amorous key: if the lady is the sun (according to the topical metaphor), then Saturn and melancholy, enemies of the Sun and Venus, according to the astrological tradition, will induce spaces marked by the cold, darkness, lack and lovelessness, but where the poetic language can rise.
