Joint Subcarrier and Power Allocation for Sum-Rate Maximization in OFDMA Full-Duplex Systems

Abstract: In this paper, we focus on the joint subcarrier and power allocation for an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) full-duplex (FD) system with the goal of maximizing the sum-rate subject to power constraints at the base station (BS) and uplink users, and subcarrier constraints. A greedy subcarrier allocation algorithm based on the necessary conditions of the optimization problem and a power allocation algorithm based on the iterative water-filling (IWF) are proposed. A hybrid scheduler that can… Show more

“…The power amplifier efficiency of the BS and UEs are set as BS = 30% and n = 20% (as in [32] and [33]), respectively. We set the maximum transmit power of the BS and UEs as P BS = 42 dBm and P n = 23 dBm, similar to [8], [17] and [33]. Parameters of the SIC constant for the BS and UEs are set as δ BS = −100 dB and δ n = −70 dB, as in [13], [34], [35] and [36].…”

“…The minimum data rate requirement in UL and DL for the nth UE are set as R u n = R d n = 2 bps/Hz. Other parameters such as the noise power and the sub-carrier bandwidth are set as −120 dBm and 180 KHz, similar to [9], [17], [21] and [38]. The default values of all parameters used in the simulations are summarized in Table II.…”

“…If the residual self-interference is not well managed, it can still prevent us from exploiting the benefits of FD systems. 5 Note that (12) is approximated under κ 1 and β 1, which is a practical assumption [16], [17]. Therefore, the terms including the multiplication of κ and β are negligible, and have been ignored in the approximation.…”

“…In addition to relay nodes, small cells which extend the service coverage and/or increase network capacity can be deployed in the FD mode due to low transmit powers, short transmission distances and low mobility. A small cell network where a FD base station (BS) serves multiple uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) users operating in the HD mode has been considered in [2]- [5]. Moreover, cognitive radios, which substantially increase spectrum utilization efficiency by allowing unlicensed users to share the spectrum with licensed users, can be deployed in the FD mode.…”
