Joint Optimization of Beam-Hopping Design and NOMA-Assisted Transmission for Flexible Satellite Systems

Abstract: Next-generation satellite systems require more flexibility in resource management such that available radio resources can be dynamically allocated to meet time-varying and nonuniform traffic demands. Considering potential benefits of beam hopping (BH) and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), we exploit the time-domain flexibility in multi-beam satellite systems by optimizing BH design, and enhance the powerdomain flexibility via NOMA. In this paper, we investigate the synergy and mutual influence of beam hop… Show more

“…Hence the impact of imperfect channel state information (ipCSI) on the performance of U-NOMA-BH systems should be considered. The authors of [39] proposed a greedy algorithm to solve the mixed integer non-convex programming (MINCP) for PD-NOMA-based BH systems. From practical considerations, considering only the PD-NOMA-BH system may lead to the low utilization of satellite carrier resources.…”

“…In Reference [ 19 ], the authors exploited the time-space-domain flexibility and power-domain flexibility of Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA), and jointly optimized a beam-hopping scheduling, slot assignment of users, and power allocation to satisfy the traffic demand as much as possible.…”

“…Since the computational complexity of optimization methods grew exponentially with the increasing beam numbers, these algorithms are unsuitable for the DBH pattern design in the time domain. Meanwhile, the bandwidth resource was sacrificed to simplify the design problem of the DBH pattern [28]. A bandwidth resource allocation algorithm was designed to avoid CCI among beams [29].…”
