Joint On-Demand Routing and Spectrum Assignment in Cognitive Radio Networks

Abstract: In Cognitive Radio Networks, nodes can work on different frequency bands. Existing routing proposals help nodes select frequency bands without considering the effect of band switching and intra-band backoff. In this paper, We propose a joint interaction between on-demand routing and spectrum scheduling. A node analytical model is proposed to describe the scheduling-based channel assignment progress, which relief the inter-flow interference and frequent switching delay. We also use an on-demand interaction to d… Show more

“…Reference [8] showed that separating these two steps may result in not finding a path or the performance will suffer. Therefore, most routing protocols in literature consider joint selection of relay nodes and the channels at each hop [9], [8], [10], [4], [11].…”

“…Therefore, routing in CRN requires cross layer design, where route decision that is done in the network layer should be based on the channels availability collected by the physical layer through sensing. Work in [9], [8], [10], [4], [11] present as cross layer routing according to this definition.…”

“…For example, the routing protocols in [12], [13] tried to maximize the throughput. The authors in [3], [14] tried to minimize end-to-end delay. The authors in [15] established robust paths in diverse spectrum conditions.…”

“…On the other side, also cognitive multi-hop wireless networks are recently attracting considerable attention [10]. In [11], Chowdhuri and Akyildiz extend the design of spectrum sensing and management techniques to the environment of wireless mesh cognitive networks, whereas references [12,13,14] address the problem of routing optimization in multi-hop cognitive environments.…”
