“…For active patients, or with more advanced OA stages, the control they provide over signs and symptoms may be insufficient (30,31,37). Since OA is symptomatic only in the affected joint, while lacking obvious extra-articular manifestations, it is well-suited to have a local therapy administered by intra-articular injection, reducing the total amount required to produce an effect, compared with a systemic administration (38)(39)(40). Still, this approach presents some disadvantages, as the need of a precise diagnosis, the learning curve inherent to the execution of the procedure (particularly when considering hips), better conducted with the assistance of fluoroscopy or ultrasound, and the need of placing the patient under sedation or general anesthesia.…”

“…Lastly, Rezende et al . demonstrated that joint lavage followed by injections of triamcinolone and Hylan G-F 20 (viscosupplement) improved balance, function, and bleeding events in patients with severe HA 73 , and Li et al . suggest that a single intra-articular platelet-rich plasma injection results in better improvement in pain relief, joint function, and reduced synovial hyperemia when compared with five weekly intra-articular injections of hyaluronic acid in patients with HA of the knee 74 .…”

“…1 Haemophilic arthropathy (HA) is a form of joint degeneration that clinically leads to disability, articular deformity, chronic pain and impaired quality of life. 3 The pathophysiology of haemophilic arthropathy is somewhat clinically and biologically similar with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis (OA). 3 The pathophysiology of haemophilic arthropathy is somewhat clinically and biologically similar with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis (OA).…”

“…The inflammatory components represented by synovitis and bone resorption are similar to RA, while the joint cartilage degeneration is similar to OA. [3][4][5][6][7] The aims of this study were (a) to evaluate the efficacy of HAc, CO, PRP and MSC in patients with haemophilic arthropathy, (b) to compare the efficacy of these 4 drugs and (c) to establish the scientific validity of the use of these drugs and determine their safety. 4 Intra-articular injections of hyaluronic acid and corticosteroids are commonly used, alone or in combination, in patients with painful knee osteoarthritis and provide pain relief for weeks (corticosteroids) or months (hyaluronic acid).…”
