Joint effects of CSN3 and LGB genotypes and their relation to breeding values of milk production parameters in Czech Fleckvieh

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The objective of this study was to estimate the joint effects of CSN3 and LGB genotypes on breeding values of milk production parameters. CSN3 (kappa-casein) and LGB (beta-lactoglobulin) genotypes of 120 Czech Fleckvieh sires were detected using the PCR-RFLP method. Breeding values of sires were obtained from the Official Database of Progeny Testing. Ten genotype combinations were detected. Genotypes ABAB (25.0%), ABAA (13.3%) and ABBB (13.3%) were the most frequent. Significant effects of genotype co… Show more

“…Genotype ABAB occurred as the most frequent, which is consistent with previous results (Matějíček et al, 2007). Whereas a high frequency of the genotype combination AAAB was found, a low rate (less than 2%) of genotypes containing the CSN3 allele E occurred.…”

“…In a previous study (Matějíček et al, 2007) the joint effects of CSN3 and LGB genotypes on breeding values of sires were evaluated. The aim of the present study was to investigate the joint effects of CSN3 and LGB genotypes on parameters of milk production, milk quality and milk coagulation properties of Czech Fleckvieh cows.…”

“…Animals with highly reliable BV are used for evaluation (usually sires whose value has been proven by progeny testing). In BV analysis, the effects of selected loci on major traits associated with milk performance are determined58–60 according to the following model: where û is the vector of BV determined by a routine method BLUP‐AM according to Eqn (1) based on all polygenes.…”

“…In addition, microsatellites were used for the analyses of genetic diversity in cattle (Čítek and Řehout, 2001;Grzybowski and Prusak, 2004a,b;Zhou et al, 2005;Czerneková et al, 2006;Čítek et al, 2006;Zaton-Dobrowolska et al, 2007). Polymorphisms of genes associated with milk production parameters and quality of milk were investigated in Czech Fleckvieh (Kučerová et al, 2006;Matějíček et al, 2007) since such loci can be taken into account as a suitable supplement to conventional breeding procedures (Přibyl, 1995).…”
