Abstract

We believe that recent research in international politics demonstrates that a body of data-based knowledge can indeed be put together, and that a new scientific discipline is in the making. Jones and Singer (1972: 2J In the following essay, five books will be examined within the broader context of the state of quantitative international studies as a whole. We will return to consider the works under review several times, taking different &dquo;cuts&dquo; at their content and presentation. There will be three broad sections in which we will employ these books for illustrative purposes. First, we will briefly examine the nature of quantitative study and the diverse substantive areas to which this methodology may be
