JIP-test in assessing sensitivity to nitrogen deficiency in two cultivars of Actinidia arguta (Siebold et Zucc.) Planch. ex Miq.

Abstract: Optimal nitrogen availability is necessary to keep high photosynthetic efficiency and in consequence, good physiological condition and growth of plants. In order to examine the effect of N nutrition on photosynthetic apparatus performance we used the chlorophyll a fluorescence (ChF) technique in two differing Actinidia cultivars and we aimed to select the most reliable ChF parameters showing N deficiency. The 4-years-old specimens growing on an experimental plantation were treated with three differing N doses … Show more

“…Some studies prove that the deficiency of some macroand micronutrients impacts the phases of OJIP curves of corn and tomato (Kalaji et al 2014), as well as actinidia (Swoczyna et al 2019). The evidence of sensitivity of photosynthetic apparatus to different form of stress is provided also by Strasser et al (1995Strasser et al ( , 2000Strasser et al ( , 2004 and Bussotti et al (2010).…”

“…As it is based on optical signals from photosynthetic samples, it is noninvasive and nondestructive to plant tissues. It can inform about plant reactions to different kinds of stress: drought (Fini et al 2009, Wang et al 2012, Guo et al 2016, Kalaji et al 2018a, high temperatures Strasser 1996, Brestič et al 2012), chilling (Strauss et al 2006), high light (Živčák et al 2015b), salinity (Misra et al 2001, Mehta et al 2010, and N deficiency (Kalaji et al 2014a, Živčák et al 2014, Swoczyna et al 2019. There are two main techniques used.…”

“…VK/VJ, reflecting efficiency of electron flow from OEC to PSII RCs (Brestič and Živčák 2013), helps detect drought or thermal stress. Diminished number of active RCs per a given cross section, RC/CS0, may indicate a photoinhibition effect (Mathur andJajoo 2014, Živčák et al 2014) or structural disturbances, for example in case of nitrogen deficiency (Swoczyna et al 2019).…”

“…This method is also suitable for continuous real-time in-situ monitoring. JIP-test parameters gave much information on plant performance when applied in field conditions in agriculture and horticulture (Tsonev et al 2011, Swoczyna et al 2019, forestry (Pollastrini et al 2014, Bussotti andPollastrini 2015), urban environment (Hermans et al 2003, Ugolini et al 2012, Swoczyna et al 2015, ecological research (Bąba et al 2016), etc.…”
