Jim Hyde and the ENDOR Connection: A Personal Account

Abstract: In this minireview, we report on our year-long EPR work, such as electron–nuclear double resonance (ENDOR), pulse electron double resonance (PELDOR) and ELDOR-detected NMR (EDNMR) at X-band and W-band microwave frequencies and magnetic fields. This report is dedicated to James S. Hyde and honors his pioneering contributions to the measurement of spin interactions in large (bio)molecules. From these interactions, detailed information is revealed on structure and dynamics of macromolecules embedded in liquid-sol… Show more

“…A small amount of spin density can also be observed on the H‐bonding nitrogen. The appearance of these spin densities is not an artifact of the calculations, as their existence can be experimentally confirmed by 15 N ENDOR or NMR spectroscopy …”

“…Thus the ESP of the TREPR spectrum of the triplet states give information on the triplet‐state formation mechanism. On the other hand, the ZFS parameters D and E obtained from the simulation of the TREPR spectra are useful for discrimination of the 3 CT and 3 LE states, that is, confinement of the triplet‐state wave functions.…”
