Jet production rates in association with W and Z bosons in pp collisions at $ \sqrt {s} = 7 {\text{TeV}} $

Abstract: Measurements of jet production rates in association with W and Z bosons for jet transverse momenta above 30 GeV are reported, using a sample of proton-proton collision events recorded by CMS at √ s = 7 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb −1 . The study includes the measurement of the normalized inclusive rates of jets σ(V+ ≥ n jets)/σ(V), where V represents either a W or a Z. In addition, the ratio of W to Z cross sections and the W charge asymmetry as a function of the number of associated… Show more

“…This is expected, given that Pythia only implements a parton shower model to describe intial state radiation, which is valid in the soft and collinear emission limit, and hence is expected to underestimate the rate of events with several hard jets. Similar results hold for W → µν µ and Z → µ + µ − , as shown in [10]. The charge asymmetry in W + jets is shown in Fig.…”

“…In this paper we report on recent CMS measurements on W/Z and hadronic jets at the Large Hadron Collider and we discuss the agreement of Monte Carlo simulation with data. We comment in particular the results on the rate of jets produced in association with a vector boson published in [10] and on recent measurement of angular correlation and event shapes in Z+jets events [11].…”

“…The MadGraph generator produces parton-level events with a vector boson and up to four partons in the final state on the basis of matrix element calculations. It has been shown to reproduce successfully the observed jet multiplicity and kinematic properties of W + jets final states at the LHC energy regime [22]. The matching matrix element/parton shower scale m 2 is equal to (10 GeV) 2 and the factorization and renormalization scales are set to Q 2 = M 2 W/Z + p 2 T,W/Z .…”

“…To achieve this, an upper energy cut Λ for the total energy outside the observed n-jets in the final state can be imposed. There are important exclusive-type jet measurements at both the Tevatron and the LHC, e.g., exclusive jet production associated with vector bosons [40][41][42][43]. However, lots of jet cross section and jet substructure measurements, e.g.…”
