Dotychczasowe badania genologiczne opery Cud, czyli Krakowiacy i Górale ograniczały się zasadniczo do stwierdzenia pokrewieństwa utworu z singspielem bądź opera-comique, ze względu na obecność dialogów mówionych. Nowe spojrzenie wprowadził ostatnio Adam Tomasz Kukla, wskazując na szczegółowe cechy opery łączące ją zarówno z dwoma wymienionymi gatunkami jak i operą buffa.
