Jasmonic acid‐mediated defense suppresses brassinosteroid‐mediated susceptibility to Rice black streaked dwarf virus infection in rice

Abstract: Plant hormones play a vital role in plant immune responses. However, in contrast to the relative wealth of information on hormone-mediated immunity in dicot plants, little information is available on monocot-virus defense systems. We used a high-throughput-sequencing approach to compare the global gene expression of Rice black-streaked dwarf virus (RBSDV)-infected rice plants with that of healthy plants. Exogenous hormone applications and transgenic rice were used to test RBSDV infectivity and pathogenicity. O… Show more

“…Our previous results showed that the JA and BR pathways were altered in opposite directions in response to RBSDV infection (He et al, ). Further investigations of the high‐throughput sequencing data showed that ABA biosynthetic genes OsNCED3 and OsABA8ox were significantly reduced in RBSDV‐infected rice in comparison to that in mock plants (Table S2).…”

“…Previous reports indicated that the JA pathway and ROS levels play important roles in resistance to RBSDV (He et al, ; Wu et al, ; Zhang et al, ). We therefore examined the interaction between ABA, the JA pathway, and ROS levels.…”

“…In pathogens defense, plants produce a complicated mixture of SA, JA, and ABA to modulate plant defense response to invading pathogens (Kunkel and Brooks, 2002; Chen et al, 2013; He et al, 2017). CaRDR1 was response to multiple plant hormones in this study (Figure 3), especially induced by SA like other RDR1 orthologs (Yang et al, 2004; Hunter et al, 2013; Liao et al, 2013).…”
