Japanese Studies on Animal Behavior in the Last Decade.

Abstract

Not less than 300 articles have been published on psychological studies on animal behavior from 1951 to 1960. Most of these articles have appeared in the Annual of Animal Psychology, published by the Japanese Society for Animal Psychology, the Japanese Journal of Psychology and the JapatifSe Psychological Research, both published by the Japanese Psychological Association. These articles are largely experimental and only a few are theoretical and review papers.About a dozen of books have appeared on animal psychology. Some of these are: Thinking in Animals (1953) which is Vol. III of the late Yatabe's Historical Introduction to Psy";' chology of Thinking, Conditioned Response by Kotake & Niihama (1951), and Animal Psychology by Tanaka (1954). As there are so many publications on animal behavior in the last decade, this review has to be restricted only to experimental works, selected under the pr~ sent authors' biases. No critical evaluations are attempted. Those who are interested in any of the following articles to be reviewed, are recommended to read the original.
