The early and effective treatment of wounds is vital to ensure proper wound closure and healing with appropriate functional and cosmetic outcomes. The use of human amnion membranes for wound care has been shown to be safe and effective. However, the difficulty in handling and placing thin sheets of membrane, and the high costs associated with the use of living cellularized tissue has limited the clinical application of amniotic membrane wound healing products. Here, we describe a novel amnion membrane-derived product, processed to result in a cell-free solution, while maintaining high concentrations of cell-derived cytokines and growth factors. The solubilized amnion membrane (SAM) combined with the carrier hyaluronic acid (HA) hydrogel (HA-SAM) is easy to produce, store, and apply to wounds. We demonstrated the efficacy of HA-SAM as a wound treatment using a full-thickness murine wound model. HA-SAM significantly accelerated wound closure through re-epithelialization and prevented wound contraction. HA-SAM-treated wounds had thicker regenerated skin, increased total number of blood vessels, and greater numbers of proliferating keratinocytes within the epidermis. Overall, this study confirms the efficacy of the amnion membrane as a wound treatment/dressing, and overcomes many of the limitations associated with using fresh, cryopreserved, or dehydrated tissue by providing a hydrogel delivery system for SAM. The monograph examines the irrealistic traditions in Russian prose of the first third of the XX century. Irrealism as a semantic and style-forming principle of artistic “belles-lettres” (as opposed to documentary, artless) at the beginning of the XX century was mentioned in criticism, including by A. A. Blok, N. N. Rusov, N. F. Berner, and it was first designated as a term and justified theoretically in philosophical and philological studies by A. M. Evlakhov. The extreme individualization of a purely artistic, rather than a creative process as a whole, suggests the search for irrealistic features of unpopular works (drafts, manuscripts, unfinished, unpublished, misunderstood texts) or second-rate writers (A. N. Bezhetsky (Maslov), S. P. Bobrov, K. Bolshakov, A. S. Voznesensky (Brodsky), A. A. Galunov, V. V. Hoffman, M. L. Hoffman, S. I. Gusev-Orenburgsky, A. F. Damanskaya, A. M. Evlakhov, V. Evtihiev, V. N. Sakulin, A. P. Skaftymov, etc., — irrealism), as well as, according to the Doctor of Philology, academician of the Independent Academy of Aesthetics and Free Arts B. F. Egorov, there is a “solid theoretical foundation and fresh, new material”.

Using new archival research, this article establishes key facts about the most understudied aspect of Lev Tolstoi's biography—his Samara estate—assessing its role in the Tolstoi family economy and property structure. Integrating imperial history with the theoretical perspective of settler colonial studies, the article argues that the estate functioned within the context of Russia's settler colonialism in Bashkiria. While this experience contributed to Tolstoi's rejection of private property, it never erased his enthusiasm for Russia's manifest destiny as a settler civilization. Sympathizing with the plight of Russian settlers, Tolstoi remained perplexingly indifferent to the suffering of the semi-nomadic Bashkirs they displaced. These findings complicate Tolstoi's status as Russia's premier anti-colonial writer, urging a more capacious framing of the problem of empire in Tolstoi's art and thought, one that balances his critiques of the military conquest of the Caucasus against his embrace of settler colonialism.
