Abstract: Purpose: Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is established as interventional treatment in atrial fibrillation (AF). Recent studies suggest that atrial reservoir function (preload) is involved in initiation of paroxysmal AF (AFparox) and conduit function (after-load) may be crucial in persistent AF (AFpers).
