IVVI: Intelligent vehicle based on visual information

Abstract: Human errors are the cause of most traffic accidents, with drivers' inattention and wrong driving decisions being the two main sources. These errors can be reduced, but not completely eliminated. That is why Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) can reduce the number, danger and severity of traffic accidents. Several ADAS, which nowadays are being researched for Intelligent vehicles, are based on Artificial Intelligence and Robotics technologies. In this article a research platform for the implementation o… Show more

“…We decided to address this problem with a focused approach, that makes the designed algorithm very centered on this single task. Other more general approaches are proposed in literature for regions of interest detection, as white detection algorithms in [2], [11] and circle detection based. Anyway, none seems to be sufficiently independent of lighting and background conditions.…”

“…At the present time, vehicle security research is focused on driver analysis [2,10,11], for this reason, the main objective is to build an intelligent system able to alert the driver about a possible road accident; this technology will increase vehicle safety, anticipating dangerous situations that may arise due to human error while driving. In particular, distraction and drowsiness are studied in depth during this research.…”
