“…As one of the most influential global cultural exporters, Disney has been sticking to a patriarchal idealisation of femininity and binding such biased gender depictions with the 'happily ever after' princess fantasy for almost 90 years. As the general sensitivity and understanding about gender (in)equality raises along with waves of feminist movements, this androcentric view of feminine experiences and virtues elicits repeated criticism from feminist activists, gender scholars, and female celebrities, denouncing Disney for setting and disseminating narrow conceptions of what it means to be beautiful and happy (Henke et al 1996;Seybold 2020).
