This study aimed to understand the perceptions of young computing science students about women and older people with regard to their computer literacy and how this may affect the design of computer-based systems. Based on photos, participants were asked how likely they thought the person depicted would be to use desktop computers, laptops and smartphones, and how much expertise they thought they would have with each technology. Furthermore, in order to see what impact this could have on systems being developed, we asked what design aspects would be important for the depicted person and whether they thought an adapted technology would be required. This study is based on an existing questionnaire, which was translated into German and extended to explore what impact this may have on system design. The results draw on 200 questionnaires from students in the first year of their Information and Communications Technology (ICT) studies at an Austrian university of applied sciences. Quantitative methods were used to determine if the perceptions varied significantly based on the age and gender of the people depicted. Qualitative analysis was used to evaluate the design aspects mentioned. The results show that there are biases against both older people and women with respect to their perceived expertise with computers. This is also reflected in the design aspects thought to be important for the different cohorts. This is crucial as future systems will be designed by the participants, and these biases may influence whether future systems meet the needs and wishes of all groups or increase the digital divide.

Russian digital education landscape during the current pandemic: is the impact felt?

The paper aims at tracing rapid changes in Russian digital education landscape having been shaken by the pandemic of 2020. To this end the study deals with the bulk of publications contributed by the Russian language authors to the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI) Database as the fullest national research representation source, which includes the most influential research journals in the educational domain. The main research question that potentiated this study was weather the “shock digitisation” faced by many teaching practitioners has been problematized in recent Russian educational discourse. We rely upon the proposition that quick and dramatic shifts can impede adequate scientific reconceptualization of digitisation phenomenon as practical needs stand first in the priority. To test the proposition, the method of content analysis targeting the titles and abstracts of the papers included into Russian Science Citation Index database has been used. Findings demonstrated insignificant increase in the number of pandemic related publications on education digitisation. The data obtained suggests that the influence of the pandemic is little observed in the issues addressed by the latest publications in the Russian educational journals. The study can be of certain prognostic value for international comparative educationalists and policy makers.

Pada dunia perkuliahan nilai indeks prestasi mahasiswa merupakan istilah yang tidak asing karena hal tersebut merupakan hasil yang didapatkan oleh mahasiswa untuk mengukur sampai sejauh mana kemampuan kita dalam mengikuti belajar mengajar di kelas. Fenomena yang diamati di Politeknik STIA LAN Jakarta menunjukan bahwa belum terdapat mahasiswa yang mencapai IP sempurna, selain itu perilaku mahasiswa yang telat mengerjakan tugas, terlambat mengikuti proses belajar mengajar, mengabaikan regulasi kampus, dan faktor eksernal lainnya hal ini menjadi faktor penyebab kurangnya motivasi belajar mahasiswa. Namun belum ada research yang membuktikan bahwa terjadi kesenjangan pada motivasi belajar mahasiswa dan hasil belajar. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini berfokus pada uji hipotesis apakah terdapat pengaruh motivasi belajar terhadap hasil belajar mahasiswa. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah metode kuatitatif dengan menggunakan SPSS versi 27. Teknik pengambilan data penelitian yaitu menyebarkan kuesioner/angket dengan menggunakan sample sebanyak 30 responden. Penelitian ini menggunakan dua variabel yaitu motivasi dan hasil belajar, variabel tersebut kemudian diturunkan menjadi beberapa dimensi kemudian dimensi tersebut diturunkan kembali menjadi beberapa indikator yang digunakan menjadi pertanyaan-pertanyaan berupa kuesioner. Hasil olah data menunjukan bahwa nilai uji regresi sederhana yaitu jika t hitung yang diperolah lebih besar dari pada t tabel maka penelitian ini dikatakan terdapat pengaruh pada variabel penelitian, dan uji signifikasi yaitu jika H0 ditolak dan Ha diterima maka penelitian ini dikatakan signifikan. Simpulan penelitian ini menunjukan terdapat pengaruh motivasi belajar terhadap hasil belajar mahasiswa.
