“…As a general remark, the authors underline the fact that the QoS limits set for INSPIRE's download service are designed to serve data to generally support the formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies and activities, which have a direct or indirect impact on the environment. In this regard, this research has demonstrated that istSOS is suitable for most of the scientific or operational applications where data are accessed by tens of users with peaks of one hundred in emergency cases [14,39]. However, it also demonstrated that its capacity of scaling with increasing size of monitoring network, either in term of number of stored observations or sensors, is limited.…”

“…In 2010, during a renewal of the hydro-meteorological monitoring network of the Canton Ti-cino, the Institute of Earth Sciences at the University of Applied Science and Arts of Southern Switzerland (IST-SUPSI) started the development of an implementation of the Sensor Observation Service standard from the OGC named istSOS [38]. As described in detail in Cannata et al [39] the software has been based on the objective of creating a simple and open source implementation of the Sensor Observation Service standard written in Python language. This standard met the needs of collecting observations in near-real-time from the sensors, publishing information on the monitoring system and sharing data in near-real-time in an interoperable way.…”

“…The OAT library implements two main classes: the Sensor class that is designated to handle time-series data and metadata and the Method class designated to represent a processing method. The Sensor class took inspiration from the SOS and it's istSOS implementation [19], with specific simplifications to ease its usage. A Sensor object is characterized by two components: a PANDAS time-series storing observations and a point feature with metadata.…”

“…The istSOS tutorial [47] proposes a structure whereby any meteorological station is defined as an SOS procedure linked with observed properties (sensor parameters). The procedures are grouped automatically with an SOS offering (-temporary‖).…”
